INTRODUCE

Lin Juan

Lin Juan is a salesperson. When she first came to Shenzhen in 2015, she shared an apartment with a friend she met online in Huangbeiling, Luohu District. They rented a shared room with a monthly rent of 4,200 yuan. In her opinion, it is very worthwhile to share a house and be able to live in a decent one by paying only 2,100 yuan per month.

At first, everything developed as she had expected. However, three months later, “my roommate, who had been getting along well with me, suddenly vanished without a trace.” “Her phone was turned off and his wechat was blocked, as if she had vanished into thin air.” Mrs Ling said. To make matters worse, when she approached the landlord and tried to ask for some grace period, the landlord's attitude was extremely tough, stating that she must bear the entire rent, or else the deposit would be deducted and she would be regarded as in breach of contract.

With no other choice, Lin Juan could only work as hard as she could. During the day, she was constantly running sales errands, and for lunch and dinner, she could only have a simple meal with instant noodles. “ After a tiring day, I still have to do part-time customer service work when I get home in the evening. Only in this way can I barely afford the expensive rent.” she said.

When the one-year contract expired, Lin Juan had lost a full six kilograms before finally escaping this hellish life. Because of this experience, she still dares not share a rental with others up to now.
